Preparation and precautions

Fasting

Fasting from solid food is required for contrast CT scan, MRI abdomen and ultrasound of the abdomen

Smoking

Smoking cessation 24 hours is necessary prior to CT scan of the coronary (heart) arteries

Allergies

Make sure you inform our staffs if you have history of allergy. Special premedication may be necessary if you are receiving contrast agents

Pregnancy

If you are pregnant, or suspect that you may be pregnant, please alert the staffs. Pregnancy may be contraindicated for some imaging studies.

Blood Samples

Blood check

Kidney function test is required if contrast scan for CT or MRI is ordered by your physician or the radiologist

 
X-Ray

Prior Studies

Always bring recent studies during the day of scan, particularly if these scans are done outside of our institution

Jewelry

Avoid wearing Jewelry or clothing which is difficult to be removed. We do provide FOC lockers for storage if necessary

Transportation

After certain procedures or studies, you may be unfit to drive. Either have someone to drive you home or make use of the public transportation or ride-hailing services.

General

For all types of medical imaging investigations, you will be required to hold still throughout the procedure. For X-rays and CT scans, the examination is usually over within seconds or minutes. 

Ultrasound

Avoid food 4 hours prior to the scan. If you doctor has ordered a pelvic scan, you may need to hold your bladder up to 2 hours with moderate consumption of fluid prior to the study.

CT

Most CT scans required intravenous contrast, occasionally contrast per-orally or per-rectally

MRI

Most MRI scans do not require contrast agents. If a disease is detected by the radiologist during scan, contrast administration may be required, usually intravenously administered.
